Like human life, this is the most critical life part of Baby puppies. Baby Puppies in First three-four weeks have not opened their eyes. (Eyes open time depend on dog breed – Read an article about When do puppies open their eyes.) So be careful about that.
Its extremely important that baby puppies should stay with mother in this period. Her milk will give all nutrition and antibodies to prevent diseases to newborn baby puppies. You can check if they use a specialized medical assistant. However, its good to not explore to direct light, and touch newborn. It is essential they nurse by their mother.
If a mother develops eclampsia or mastitis, then it is not possible to put puppies with their mother. In this situation, you can use puppy milk replacers and bottles that you can easily find in pet stores.
Six to Eight Weeks
This period is also a puppy mother’s Period. However, I get as a subtitle because after six weeks you can Weaning your puppy to solid foods. Puppies younger than eight weeks, you may need to soak dry food until it feels spongy. Just like Human Baby. 🙂
Weaning your puppy to solid food
Weaning your puppy to solid food is cannot be done in one night. It takes time, at least two-three weeks. Your newborn puppies need high caloric and nutrition. So first find a high-quality brand of puppy food. Generally, this food needs to have protein, calcium, and calories but you can get advice from your vet nutritionist.
There is no “Magic” in this process. Most of the time this happens naturally. However, today weaning is not done to aid the mother because we take new puppies to new home around seven weeks of age.
Prepare the Puppy Mush
*This feeds 6 to 8 puppies of medium size dog breeds.
- Put 2 cups of high-quality puppy food to blender with 12.5 oz liquid puppy milk replacer.
- Then fill the rest of the blender with hot water.
- This should be blenderized until the consistency of human infant cereal.
Usually, puppies need this meal 3-4 times per day. When they start to walk and play you can add more food. Week by week you can
