Havanese is originated in the Western Mediterranean Region in Cuba. It is really proud to say that he is the national dog breed in the Cuba. Havanese is also called as Havanese Cuban Bichon, Youcef Sorry, Bichon Havanes, Havaneser, Havanezer and Bichon Habanero.
He is the sturdy dog of immense charm. The Blanquito was cross bred with the other Bichon types such as Poodle dogs and then create Havanese dog breeds.
Havanese is belonging to the Bichon family of dogs. In the ancient time he is originated in the Mediterranean region. It is believed that Havanese progenitors were come from Tenerife. Havanese was gifted by Spanish traders to Cuban women to maintain trade relationships.

Over the years number of Havanese become reduced and extinct in Cuba and Europe. Three Cuban families were left to the United States with their Havanese and later they become the progenitors of the modern Havanese.

Havanese is a cute looking dog breed. His weight is ranged in between 3 – 6 kg and the height is ranged in between 23 – 27 cm. He is slightly longer than tall. A unique feature of the Havanese is the topline. It is raised slightly from withers to croup. His body length is due to the long rib cage.
Havanese has short upper arm with moderate shoulder. His top skull is flat and the back skull is round in nature. Muzzle is full and tapered. Havanese has almond shaped dark brown eyes. Tail is carried arched forward up over the back. Havanese gait is unique to him.
Havanese coat is long, soft, lightweight and silky that is practically none shedding. Also it is profuse, wavy and undulating. He has double coat that divided as inner and outer. Outer coat is not coarse and over dense like other dogs. It is soft and light in nature.
Sometimes their under coat is completely absent. His coat is made to act as a sunshade and cooling agent in hat days due to the Havanese tropical nature. Coat is also protecting Havanese from cold conditions.
It is really necessary to keep his coat long during winter seasons coz he is originated in hot weather and difficult to bear the cold. Grooming is very important for Havanese to keep his body clean and healthy.
Brushing and combing his hairs make shiny and pretty looking. Occasional bathing make Havanese healthy and clean. To avoid the overgrowth of his strong and fast growing nails, you should have to trim your doggies’ nails regularly by using nail clipper or grinder. Havanese ears can be infected due to the wax and debris inside. So, it is important to check his ears regularly. Also his teeth should be brushed regularly.
